An ad hoc Parliamentary Committee held today its maiden meeting at the Assembly for following-up and handling significant issues that facing the Country during the recess of National Assembly, chaired by chairperson of the committee, deputy speaker of National Assembly, Mr. Atem Garang Deng. The meeting also attended by both deputies speaker, Mr. Hajo Gasim Al-Seed and Ms. Samia Ahmed. Then, Mr. Atem Garang reviewed duties and functions of the Committee, such as safeguard integrity of territory, people and social structure of the Sudan, working for resolving Darfur crisis and bringing about peace in the region, supporting and consolidating efforts that lead to realize peace, following-up general political performance in the country, and warding off domestic and external risks that threaten stability and integrity of Sudan.
Three sub-committees were formed, which consist of three sectors, Political Committee chaired by Mr. Mahadi Ibrahim, Committee for disussing peace in Darfur chaired by General Ibrahim Suleiman, and Referendum Committee chaired by Mr. Ramadan Hassan.
The meeting approved the importance of accelerating the Committees to prepare their plans as well as submitting programs within a week time to the concerned Committee, which shall proceed to states. All members of the Committee from all blocs, called upon integrating of national rank, consolidating of internal front, participating of political forces, and exerting efforts for resolving such issues that threaten the country, completion of Darfur crisis, besides making people of Sudan be aware of the role that played by National Assembly and its consideration to main issues that of importance to the citizens at all levels, particularly arrangement as pertaining to Referendum, and finally disseminating of unity and peace culture, pointing out the importance of coordination of state legislative councils.
The Committee shall hold on next Monday, corresponding to 17/07/2010, a press conference at National Assembly, on which the method that the Committee would conduct its business will be reviewed.
