Parliaments Economic Committee Looks with the Ministry into the Agricultural Season, Price Rising, Sugar crisis and Projects’ Implementation
The Financial and Economic Committee of the National Assembly, chaired by Mr. Goj Mek Waj the chairperson, paid a field visit to Ministry of Finance and National Economy in the framework of its work and its overseeing and legislative role. The delegation of the committee, however, was reassured of a number of economic issues that concern the public. The members of the Committee raised some questions about the performance of the 2009 General Budget, the readiness of the Ministry to provide the needs of the current agricultural season, price rising, sugar crisis, dropping of exchange rate of Sudanese pound against the dollar, petrol and the commitment of the Ministry to implement the projects that set forth in the CPA.


Minister Finance and National Economy, Mr. Ali Mohammed, answered all the questions and affirmed that there is advancement in rate of growth reaching 6% in average which is considered as good. He further assured the delegation on readiness of his ministry to make the agricultural season successful and that SDG (275) millions go to the agricultural sector and $ (200) millions are exploited to agriculture and that petrol constitutes only 41% of revenues and the remaining 59% are non-petroleum revenues.

On the issue of sugar crisis, the Minister reaffirmed that the quantities of available sugar are more than the needs of the country till the end of this year the matter that emphasize the concern of the State and its keen to abundance of goods and commodities.

As regards macro projects, the Minister disclosed the great developments in Engas Qarbi Highway (Salvation Western Highway), pointing out that all aspects of its financing were completed whereas SDG 304 millions were allocated, SDG 65 millions of which for Um-Kadada – Al-Fashir segment and SDG 108 million for Zalinjah- Al-Jenanah segment. The Minister, as well, re-affirmed the concern of his ministry about the internal & external debit.
